August 4, 2005, GORDONSVILLE – A grant and loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be used to update the sewer system at Gordonsville’s industrial park, said U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon.
“A safe and reliable sewer system is vital to the health and quality of life of Gordonsville residents,” said Gordon, dean of the state’s congressional delegation. “These upgrades will help the town maintain the standard of living enjoyed by residents.”
The town will make the upgrades with funds from USDA Rural Development. Gordonsville will receive a Water and Waste Disposal loan of $252,000 and a grant of $135,000.
Gordonsville Mayor Larry Bradford said the town will use the funds to reroute existing sewer lines, upgrade pump stations and construct about 1.5 miles of new sewer lines along Highway 53. Some of the lines and pumps are 30-years-old.
“The sewer rehabilitation will help us promote new industrial and commercial growth along Highway 53,” said Bradford.
Gordon agreed that the upgrades could attract more jobs to the area.
“Economic development efforts are aided tremendously by this type of project because companies that bring good-paying jobs to the area demand reliable utilities,” he said.
