Gordon Stays In Touch With Call your Congressman Event
April 29, 2002, WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon has set aside Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10, for Middle Tennessee residents of the Sixth congressional District to call him free of charge and discuss issues or problems.
People are asked to call Gordon either on Thursday, May 9, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. or on Friday, May 10, between 9 a.m. and noon. By dialing 1-866-852-8949, people can speak with the congressman free of charge. The number is temporary and will be activated only for these two days.
"Staying in touch with the people who elected me to Congress is my number one priority," Gordon explained. "I value their opinions and insights into the problems facing our nation, especially in times like these. My best ideas, after all, come from my friends in Cannon County.
"Our nation’s war on terrorism has to take center stage, but we cannot set aside issues affecting our everyday lives. We have to make sure our children get an education second to none by providing local schools with the necessary resources. And we have to make sure our economy gets going again because too many people are being laid off or their plants are being shut down.
"We also have to make sure Social Security and Medicare are strengthened for current and future generations of Americans. Older Americans, after all, count on these essential programs in their retirement years. I hope people will call and let me know what they think this nation’s priorities should be. I also want to know if there is anything I can do to help someone who may have a problem with a federal agency," he added.
