Murfreesboro Housing Authority Helps Mentally Disabled With Federal Grant
January 2, 2008, MURFREESBORO – Three U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants totaling $251,334 will allow the Murfreesboro Housing Authority to continue to provide housing for homeless persons with mental disabilities, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced.
“HUD’s Continuum of Care Assistance programs provide funding for transitional housing, permanent housing and a variety of supportive services for homeless persons, helping them on their way to becoming more self-sufficient,” Gordon said.
The Murfreesboro Housing Authority received a Homeless Management Information System renewal of $47,166. HMIS is a computer database required of any organization who receives shelter and care vouchers, Section 8 Administrator Deborah Fox said.
The Murfreesboro Housing Authority also received two Shelter and Care renewals of $97,968 and $106,200.
“Every dollar used for housing has to be matched in services provided for persons with disabilities,” Fox said. “This is a very successful program.”
The Murfreesboro Housing Authority is able to provide housing for 40 individuals or families in Rutherford County through HUD funding.
