Congressman Bart Gordon, Representing Tennessee's 6th District Home Page

State and Local Issues

Bart listens to concerns of Cookeville residents at a school supply drive for students who lost their supplies in a fire at Jere Whitson School.
Middle Tennessee is my home, and I’ve never forgotten that. The good advice I get from back home helps me bring some common sense to the debates in Washington.

From fighting to keep the nation’s nuclear waste out of Tennessee to helping our communities get more resources to fight methamphetamine, I’m working in Congress to be a strong voice for the Volunteer State.

Here are some of the things I’ve done:

Shelbyville Mayor Geneva Smith, City Manager Ed Craig and Bart look over plans for Shelbyville’s greenway expansion.• Introduced the Methamphetamine Remediation Research Act to help our communities clean up meth lab sites;

• Stood up to four presidents who have tried to store the nation’s nuclear waste in Tennessee and fought proposals to import nucear waste from foreign countries;

• Fought against privatization of Tennessee’s lakes;

• Urged the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to ensure the safety of residents while repairing Wolf Creek Dam and Center Hill Dam;

• Introduced legislation to establish the Tennessee Civil War Heritage Area, which includes all 95 counties in the state.
